The RSA and the Samosa are to build on the success of their recent programme of Britain and Pakistan events by developing and hosting a film project to support and platform talented young filmmakers and citizen journalists in Pakistan to produce short films highlighting the work of community activists, charitable organisations and social innovators. The films will be hosted on a platform on the RSA website and promoted widely both online and through other programme events and activities across the UK and Pakistan. Read more about the project.

Before submitting your film, please ensure that it conforms to the following criteria:

Films should ideally be no more than 10 minutes in length. They can be in Urdu, English, Punjabi, Sindhi, Saraiki, Pashto, Balochi or other regional languages. We do ask that films have English subtitles, where appropriate.

The subject matter for films should:

  • focus on civil society, young people, sectors such as welfare, education, development, human rights, conflict resolution, minority rights, gender and equality, tribal and rural communities, children’ s welfare, the environment,  health and culture, or

  • cover the arts, culture, social welfare, youth culture and groups working for social change and progress, or

  • relate to direct relationships between Britain and Pakistan such as family, diaspora, trade, business, heritage, charitable and welfare work.

The goal of this project is to use film to increase awareness and support for Pakistani civil society organisations and activists working to tackle the country’s pressing social problems. It also aims to profile some of the many cultures and communities of Pakistan, and support young filmmakers working in areas such as; arts, social welfare and citizen journalism. In doing so, it is hoped that the films’ audiences will be inspired to participate in, or support, civic activity.

The films will be used to generate a different, more positive discourse and raise awareness of those tackling tough social problems in Pakistan and how the British Pakistani community, and wider social and economic networks, can support this work. Film selection and curatorial decisions will be made by The Samosa and the RSA.
