28th September to 02nd October 2012, 6:00 pm – Exhibition. ‘New Art from Pakistan’ Five days of Late Modernist and Contemporary Pakistani Art.
Pakistani art today with its diverse, genres and a growing international influence remains foremost amongst the world’s best regarded front ranking art works, produced in the world today.
Stream of Pakistani artists are constantly making waves on the national and international art horizon. We witness Pakistani art luminaries like: Rasheed Araeen, Ustad Bashir Ahmed, Rashid Rana, Jamil Naqsh, Shahid Sajjad, Khadim Ali, Amin Gulgee, Faiza Butt, Shahzia Sikandar, Huma Mulji, Imran Qureshi and other significant artists, breaking boundaries and achieving new heights in artistic excellence.
Most of these artists have achieved international acclaim and continue to astound us with the metamorphosis of their artistic feats. In Pakistan, a great deal of the art in existence is dictated by public opinion and national taste.
Art criticism too, dictates the value of works of art in existence and therefore, it is important to showcase the choicest in the presence of an international audience. In this regard, researching and acquiring a select, cross section of the choicest works, an eclectic mix, was an essential endeavor; this remains the most vital aspect of curatorial practice.
Having explored the entire gamut, a kaleidoscope of Pakistani art Masters works were incorporated in the exhibition art work choice. Masters such a Sadequain, Ustad Allah Bux and Gulgee’s works were included in the selection and they continue to remain best regarded artists in our list of Master artists for all times.
Here, art itself was a source of inspiration and the authentic artists selected have contributed to a wide art choice. The Contemporaries and the Moderns have intermingled and all artists selected have made immeasurable, significant contribution, towards the realization of Pakistani art as an international tour de force.
This selection is a humble effort to showcase some of the best of Pakistani art. Finally, Pakistan remains a country, whose art community has done it a great service and made it truly proud.
